A commonly known phrase 'CCJ' is an abbreviation for County Court Judgment. Often we hear this expression used in the press and in advertising, but what exactly is a CCJ and why des it effect credit?
A CCJ is issued by a county court and is a marking on your credit file that informs creditors that you have defaulted on the repayment agreement.
To obtain a CCJ, a creditor will issue a claim form at court for the amount of money they believe is outstanding. The court sends correspondence to the debtor to inform them of this action and to give the debtor an opportunity to respond to the claim.
If no response is returned to the court, or a judge grants an order in favor of the creditor, a CCJ is issued against the debtor. This appears on credit checks and can hinder your chance of getting credit in the future.
A CCJ can be marked as 'satisfied' on your credit file. This will improve your chances of credit in the future. If you want more information about doing this, please call free on 0800 231 60 40 for more details.
